An opening round blockbuster with traditional rival St Leo’s Emmaus and two derbies against local rival’s Bulleen Templestowe are the highlights of the Bushrangers 2016 VAFA Division 2 campaign, which was released yesterday by the VAFA.
Round 1 – Saturday 9th April 2016
Bulleen Templestowe vs. Old Eltham
Emmaus St Leos vs. Yarra
Richmond Centrals vs. MHSOB
St Johns vs. Monash Gryphons
West Brunswick vs. Preston Bullants
2016 will see the Bushrangers renew hostilities with likes Old Eltham, Richmond Central and the Monash Gryphons but will also see them, for the first time in the clubs history, take on the Preston Bullants in round seven.
The club had been hopeful of a blockbuster ANZAC day clash against West Brunswick at the MCG however the powers that be once again have allowed Collingwood and Essendon the honour of playing on one of football’s biggest stages.
Speaking at the launch of the fixture club President Michael Wines was delighted with the end result “Obviously we are disappointed not to be playing on the MCG on ANZAC day but I think our fans will still have lots of opportunities to attend bushrangers games in the 2016 season, we asked for all games to be played at the traditional 2pm Saturday afternoon timeslot, which our fans prefer, and to their credit the VAFA have granted us this request and the two derbies against Bulleen Templestowe will ensure we once again attract large crowds to our games.”
The 2016 Season kicks off 9 April next year at Bennettswood Reserve, Burwood. Full coverage will be found on our site and across social media!
