Yarra OGFC have announced their first ever Women’s Training session to be held at Yarra Valley Grammar on Wednesday 23rd of November starting at 6.30pm.
The milestone event will be the first opportunity for the club’s members to witness, first-hand, what has been building largely behind the scenes, for the previous 5 months.
Numbers thus far have far exceeded our initial estimates and have come from a wide variety of sources. Of course past and present students make up a large proportion of the playing group. But numbers have also come from partners, friends, colleagues and relatives of the existing men’s playing group, and a number have also contacted the club directly to express interest in playing, without any direct connection to the club or even AFL Football in general.
Former Premiership coach Rob Drew will be running the sessions which we be run alongside the men’s sessions until a full-time women’s coach is appointed.
More than 30 VAFA teams have intentions of running a team in the first ever VAFA – Women’s, riding a ground swell of enthusiasm that Women’s Football is generating at the moment. If you are interested in playing with or supporting the girls in their first season please contact Luke Gillies
