Yarra’s first Women’s football team have found their home for 2017, after practice matches, lighting premierships and three grading rounds, Yarra OGFC will play out their first season in VAFA Women’s Division 2.
For key defender Hilary Donelan, the long awaited grading is recognition of the hard work done by the girls over the preseason.
“It’s an exciting result that we managed to be recognised at a high level against some serious competition, especially Old Carey.”
While happy with the grading Donelan wasn’t surprised to be graded so high,
“Since the beginning of pre-season training I saw potential in our team, as we had some strong standouts. The Lightning Cup Championship showed promise for our side finishing 5th overall. The only setback for our team is inexperience but I know that will come with time as our team shows true determination”
The division will see the Bushranger’s matched against a number of traditional VAFA powerhouses including Collegians, Hampton Rovers and traditional men’s rival UHS-W. But Hilary hold’s little fear of what’s to come;
“Our team may be small but we have determination and strength. I have only known most of these girls for a couple of months, even weeks but I feel like I’m running out with my best friends and I trust them. We back each other and lift each other’s spirits in times of stress, so going up against large clubs and challenging sides makes me eager and confident that we will bond together and face any team head on.”
The fixture will be released on Wednesday. All Teams will take their grading game wins into the season proper but all percentages will be returned to 0%. Check the club’s website for details of fixtures as they become available
