Trade News: Jono no longer best Trend by default

As we kick off the trade period for the 2018 season, Yarra’s head of football – Rob Drew – has already delivered two signings that could only be described as “On Trend.”

The first news came on Tuesday as months of heresay was confirmed when Rob announced Ben Trend would be re-joining the club after a year hiatus in the EFL.

Ben will not only be resuming his position in the team as a ruthless ball getter who can run all day, but he will take on a new role as playing assistant coach under Greg.

Ben’s experience in the EFL, playing for Norwood, will be another positive injection for the club after the high quality recruits from 2017, but as a multiple best & fairest winner, previous club captain, premiership player and all round good bloke, it’s fair to say we’re just happy to have him back!

Rob echoed this sentiment, “Great to have you back, mate, we can’t wait to see the #32 back on the field net year!!”

Following this, was the news that we’d be welcoming back another Trend in 2018 – Ben and Jono’s father, Ian.

Ian Trend coached the Yarra Reserves for 7 seasons, including two grand final appearances and 1 premiership. His footy knowledge and communication skills are outstanding and will slot in very nicely next to Greg and Millsy, particularly given his strong rapport with the playing group.

Ian

It’s fair to say Ian never really “left” the club, and we’re sure Jan is still dodging the whiteboards in the living room, but we’re sure everyone is extremely excited to have him welcomed back in an official role.

Please join us in welcoming two of our favourite sons back to the club and we look forward to some healthy debates of who the “better” trend will be in 2018!
